b. Many plaintiff law firms are more apt to hire paralegals with associates degrees or paralegal certificates. Reason: Plaintiff Law Firms specialize in different types of law. It is important that they bring in employees that they can mold and shape the way that they practice law. In many cases, paralegals in Plaintiffs’ firms earn a hirer salary because they are given a bigger role in handling cases. Unlike in a defense atmosphere, a plaintiffs’ paralegal has to be proactive. To be proactive, they must learn the Civil Rules of Procedure and anticipate what will happen.
c. General and sole practitioners prefer paralegals with paralegal certificates. Reason: In most cases, paralegals with certificates do not expect a high salary. In most cases, sole practitioner paralegals have a large responsibility in case management. These paralegals will learn the most about the laws of the state, however, will get less experience in civil litigation.
2. Research the teachers and advisors in the school’s paralegal program.
In most cases, the teachers in a school’s paralegal program will be the very people that paralegals will be working with upon graduation…attorneys. Most schools solicit practicing attorneys to teach the fundamentals of law to be used working as a paralegal. These attorneys/instructors will be able to instruct you not only in theory but also with practical experience. When obtaining a position as a paralegal you will find that this could probably be the most important part of your training.
